Construction crews have officially topped off the second building part of the Press Blocks redevelopment in the Goose Hollow neighborhood.
A spokesperson with CKC Structural Engineers-based in Bellevue, Washington, said the Byline apartment building on Southwest 16th Avenue, which will bring 341 apartments, topped off on construction in the middle of September. The building on Southwest 17th Avenue, which will house office space, topped off at the end of August.
The Press Blocks is a mixed-use development in Goose Hollow where The Oregonian’s printing facility was previously housed.
The finished product will bring a 24-story high-rise apartment building and a four-story office building called Canvas at Press Blocks.
The two buildings will share a courtyard and four levels of below-grade parking.
The project is a joint effort by Urban Renaissance Group and Security Properties. Turner Construction Company is the general contractor for the project with Seattle-based design firm Mithun providing integrated architecture and landscape architecture services for this phase of development.
GBD Architects designed the Canvas office building and is collaborating on Byline’s subterranean parking garage and permitting, according to a news release from Mithun.
Other partners on the Byline team include Harper Houf Peterson Righellis, CKC Structural Engineers, Clumac, Bumgardner, A3 Acoustics, 4EA Building Science, Applied Building Information, O’Brien 360 and STO Design Group.
Urban Renaissance Group and Security Properties purchased the one-and-a-half block site from Advance Local Media, which owns The Oregonian, for $20 million in 2017.
The original eight-story building was demolished in September 2022 with construction beginning shortly after in October.
The full project is expected to be completed by fall.
